Program Overview

Impacting the lives of others

Leaders in Inclusive Services (LINCS) is a program for high-achieving university students and high school seniors in the state of Tennessee who are interested in impacting the lives of others, while preparing for a future in healthcare, human services, social services and more. In this program, you will help improve the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable populations in the state, while making yourself a better applicant to top universities and building a resume for your dream career. LINCS Partners include: Vanderbilt University, Middle Tennessee State University, East Tennessee State University and The University of Memphis (currently). Examples of LINCS positions include: caregiver, home health aide, job coach and direct support professional. The programs you will work for serve populations such as: the elderly, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, individuals with physical disabilities, and children with complex medical needs.

How to participate

  • 17-year-old students will always work alongside experienced staff, and cannot work alone. Additionally, they will not have certain responsibilities, such as dispensing medication, working late night shifts, or operating equipment (such as lifts).
  • Students 18 years and older can apply for any position except Home Health Aides
  • Home Health Aides roles are for high school students with a CNA certification, and university students only.

  • Vanderbilt University: Department of Special Education (Undergraduate and Graduate Programs)
  • ETSU: Departments of Social Work; Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology; Rehabilitative Sciences; Education, Counseling and Human Services; Sports, Exercise, Recreation and Kinesiology; and Department of Nursing (Undergraduate and Graduate)
  • MTSU: Department of Social Work
  • University of Memphis: Department of Social Work; and Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research

NO COST annual membership to The Arc for LINCS participants

The Arc Tennessee is committed to helping increase the number of Direct Support Professionals serving individuals in Tennessee’s disability community. LINCS participants are invited to join The Arc federation at no-cost.
