PEOPLE FIRST
Recognizing each person as an individual
People First Tennessee is a statewide disability rights organization with the goal of empowering people with disabilities to have voices in addressing issues of equality that affect them.
Discover a community of self-advocates
People First Tennessee is a grassroots membership disability rights group led by self-advocates with the goal of empowering people with disabilities to have voices in addressing issues of equality. People First was established as a powerful self-advocacy organization. Dedicated to leading a vibrant, engaged and growing movement of self-advocates who aspire for full inclusion of people with disabilities in society.
People First is a place for self-advocates and those who support the disability community including family members, friends, direct support professionals, service coordinators and anyone wanting to make a difference. People First is a catalyst for addressing issues affecting people with disabilities to lead lives of their own choosing, be free from poverty, to be employed, reside in the community and live independently with access to necessary supports. The People First Leadership Manual offers history, activities, and information to help self-advocates move toward their advocacy goals.
The leadership of People First is a joint effort including an advisory council led by self-advocates, mentors and The Arc Tennessee staff.
Anyone can become a People First Member! It’s a great opportunity and one of the many ways The Arc Tennessee is working to expand community for individuals, families and supporters of the disability world.
