AccessibilityAn "access key" allows any visitor to use a keyboard shortcut to easily skip through the main navigation menu and jump directly to website content. This can be helpful to users who make use of a screen reader to read the content out loud.*
How an access key is activated typically depends on the browser; Windows users usually hold the Alt key down while pressing the letter or number defined in the access key listing (see below), while Macintosh users hold down the Control key rather than the Alt key. Access keys change the keyboard focus so once a visitor has selected their access key, they should then press the Enter key to immediately follow that link. For example, if a visitor presses Alt-S (Windows) or Control-S (Macintosh) at any time on any page, the keyboard focus will move immediately to the Skip to Content link at the top of each page. The visitor can then press the Enter key to immediately jump to the page's content area. The following list identifies all of the access keys implemented on The Arc of Tennessee website.
